1BerthDiagramsThese plans show a close up of the berth with regard to the surronding attributes. In general these plans show the distances and sizes of the berth including maximnm draft alongside and maximum/minimun vessel sizes. They may also show the relevant features of the berth, (mooring Dolphins, Bollards, Cargo Control Room, Fire Monitors) Sample Ships are sometimes shown along side to give a general idea of positioning.gif2BerthEquipmentThis style covers a real multitude of types, but the basics are, Crane Arrangement, Chicksan Arrangements, Hose Arrangements, Buoy Arrangements, Ship Loaders. The Basic premise is what information received is transfered onto the plan..gif3BerthLocationsUsually shows a general layout of the port, (These plan used to be subtitled layout) showing the positions of the berths themselves with relation to each other, and any internal port landmarks( Gates, Customs, Harbour master, Port limits, etc...) Anchorages and external offshore port limits, where known are shown in more detail, as are turning circles and basins. While on some of the location plans, depths may be shown, on the Berthing Location Plans depths where known must be shown not just alongside but also in the channels, turning circles and basins. A scale if possible should be placed on this plan. These plans while already showing buildings of general interest should show any railway lines and streets that may in affect the ship.
It should be noted that sometimes the addition of streets and railway lines also help the general overall effect of the plan and therefore, while not of any relevance to the actual plan they can assist in the look, (See "Ho Chi Minh") North Arrow is shown even if North is up.gif4CountryIn most cases there should be no reason why a country plan cannot be North Up with Graticules. These plans should also show all ports listed within the "GTPE" for that country and if possible the major airports.
Country Borders should also be shown through maybe with a little more control, (See Germany).
If the plan extends enough some major ports in the surrounding countries should also be shown for local colour.
When the Graticules are shown North is up..gif5MiscellaneousIn theory there should be no miscellaneous plans but on occasion one appears that cannot be fitted in under the above headings, (see Panama Canal, Elbe Helicopter Pilotage.)
These plans are done on a individual basis..gif6MooringDiagramsShowing the vessel alongside the berth with lines Forward and Aft, giving the idea of the vessels tie-up, these plans are mainly Ship Masters reports, and sometimes have a table showing tie-up order and Wires/Ropes setup.
As in the Berth Diagrams relevant depth and size info may be shown as are any relevant shore equipment..gif7NotAllocatedThose plans which have not yet been allocated a plan type. This is the default when the field was created.gif8PortLocationThese plans should show a general guideline to the location of the port with relation to any salient points or features, (Lighthouses, Bays, Peninsulas, etc).
Most of these plans have a scale giving a general ides of distances involved and whenever possible a layout of ship's Channels into and out of the Port.
As a general rule North should be up, but if not then a North Arrow should be shown.
Anchorages and Port Limits should also be shown on this plan..gif9SMRShipmaster reports are the worst of all the plans, this is due to the plans being reliant on the masters being able to Draw.
There is on occasion the information received having little or no relevance to the other plans of the port..gif10PhotographsThis style is self explanatory..jpg11FlagThe national or state flag for a region.gif12LimitsAnchorages, Port Limits and Exclusion Zones.gif20PhotosNew style (cdr) photos.jpg
